Dinghy sailing for sailors of all ages

Our Dinghy Division offers dinghy sailors from 7 through to 70+ years of age a great sailing program! We are a family friendly Club dedicated to encouraging children to start sailing in smaller boats, and develop their skills as they grow into a larger class of boat or windsurfing. Dinghy sailing is exciting and challenging for adults as well, as adults can race Tasars, Sabres, Windsurfers and the Olympic Class Lasers on our dinghy race days.

In the Summer Season, dinghy sailing activities regularly occur on a Sunday with boats rigged and launched from the lawn area in front of Dinghy Division club rooms. Parents and family members are welcome to enjoy the Club hospitality while their sailors are enjoying racing or training out on the water.

We sail on Matilda Bay in front of RPYC as well as at the Fremantle Annexe, both of which provide some the best sailing conditions in the world catering for beginners through to high level competitors. Dinghy Division sailors will tell you there is no better place to be than out on water either in Matilda Bay with the city of Perth as a backdrop or enjoying the thrills of ocean sailing. Royal Perth Yacht Club offers the best of all worlds.

Our training and coaching programs actively support and foster Club participation in interclub, state, national and international sailing events.

Dinghy classes sailed

RPYC currently hosts 5 fleets –Optimists, Lasers, Pacers and Sabres and Tasars. Each class of boat has a fleet representative who co-ordinates fleet activities at Dinghy Division. Pacers are primarily used by the Club for learn to sail and team racing events.

If you are new to sailing and are not sure which fleet you would like to sail in, we have Club boats in each class available to sail during training sessions. Contact Chris Goldacre our Club Development Officer to find out how to get involved.
